The first box office numbers for Michael Bay's Transformers: Dark of the Moon are in and seem to be OK. The third installment earned $5.5 million at the 9pm Tuesday night screenings in 2,700 3D theaters and added more 2D screens at midnight to take in $8 million at that time for a total of $13.5 million so far.

The original Transformers debuted on a Monday night with $8.8 million while Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen made $16 million its first night at midnight. The studio is estimating the movie will make between $155 million to $165 million through the July 4th holiday, but we'll keep you updated with more box office reports.
