Marvel/Disney’s ‘Thor’ easily held onto the top spot in theaters this past weekend and stayed atop the box office this weekend, taking in $34.5m in its weekend with a 47.5% dropbringing its total domestic box office to $119 million in just two weeks. Currently its worldwide box office gross has reached $344 million. ‘Thor’ most likely won’t reach the box office heights of fellow Marvel heroes ‘Spider-Man 3 ($890 million) or Iron Man 2 ($622 million), but will certainly pass ‘Fantastic Four’s $330 million gross.

The Judd Apatow-produced, Paul Feig-directed Bridesmaids that was the true surprise. The fantastic comedy took in an impressive $24.4m for Kristen Wiig‘s first lead performance.

The other wide debut of the week, Scott Stewart’s Priest, grabbed $14.5m with a reported $60m budget. The $60 million budgeted ‘Priest’ took in $15 million to place 4th place at the box office with an additional $5 million in international sales. The film is still being rolled out internationally so it still has a chance to make a small profit. Especially if it is well received in Japan where the Manga story originated. However, many fans of the graphic novel have already expressed their displeasure at the movie’s major story changes. Fast Five continued its impressive run, taking in $19.5m with its third weekend. In family fare, Rio dropped a miniscule 5% taking in $8m in its fifth weekend.

In limited releases, Will Ferrell’s drama Everything Must Go took $740k in 218 theaters for a respectable $3,394 per-theater-average. The other notable indie release was Hesher, which grabbed $127k in 40 theaters for a $3,175 PTA.

Next week we only have one major release, Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides. Expect it to easily take the #1 spot.
