The nerd ruled supreme at last night's Golden Globes, with The Social Network picking up four awards. David Fincher's tale of Facebook founder Mark Zuckerberg won prizes for best dramatic film, best director, best screenplay and best score. The awards also boost the Oscar hopes of Colin Firth's chances of being named Best Actor in the Academy Awards for his role in The King's Speech have sharply increased after he won in the same category at the Golden Globes.

During the past few years, one-in-five Golden Globe winners have gone on to win an Oscar, However, Firth remains the favourite after losing out last year when he was nominated for A Serious Man.

In contrast to Firth's reserved acceptance speech, Natalie Portman gushed about her win for Black Swan and her pregnancy with co-star and fiancé Benjamin Millepied. She also thanked her grandmother in Cincinnati and her parents, who were seated in the audience. Usual stuff that makes most people watching these shows switch over or fast forward in my case.
