The story centres on the Shannons, an ordinary family from 2149 when the planet is dying who are transported back 85 million years to prehistoric Earth where they join Terra Nova, a colony of humans with a second chance to build a civilization.

The news is that there is a special live screening of Terra Nova ttaking place on Friday, August 26th at the Metro Toronto Convention Centre during Fan Expo Canada.

Entrance to the screening will be on a first come first serve basis, so you’d have to get there early if you’re in Toronto.  If not, you’ll have to watch the premiere on Citytv on Monday September 26th.

UK fans were treated to a screening of the pilot earlier this month, and FOX has been providing limited online access to the pilot to a few Klout VIPs to help build up buzz for the show.

Brannon Braga, Executive Producer/Writer, prefaces, “It’s the year 2149, and Earth is on its last legs, and scientists have found a way to send people back 85 million years, to rebuild civilization.” As he speaks, there are images of the colonists walking through the portal, of Jim Shannon fighting security and hurling himself through the gateway, into the past.

“Traveling to the year 2149, this is like utopia, it’s like a second chance,” says Jason O’Mara, as his on-screen character marvels at the lush surroundings of his new home 85 millennia in the past.

Story starts in the year 2149, a time when all life on planet Earth is threatened with extinction. In an effort to save the human race, scientists develop a time machine that is capable of transporting humans 85 million years back in time to prehistoric Earth. Terra Nova, is the first human colony settled on the other side of a temporal wormhole. As with many Science Fiction shows, the dangers inherent in setting up housekeeping in prehistoric times come into play.

Terra Nova is going to please any Sci-Fi fan including me - efforts should be made so to cover all ages and keep the language clean. But that remains to be seen. The show’s crew built a massive outdoor set for the Terra Nova colony in Australia. What that means is, the set is real, not CGI, which allows more time to get the creatures right. The special effects is likely to be advanced with Spielberg technology made available to the creators. The drama and writing is the key if it is going to survive beyond couple of season. But the setting is unusual and does have a StarGate approach which would allow it to run for many seasons.

Creators: Craig Silverstein, Kelly - Marcel Star Trek’s Brannon Braga
Stars: Jason O'Mara, Christine Adams and Byron J. Brochmann
Producer: Steven Spielberg
