Sci-Fi drama Outcasts is to be axed by the BBC   Sci-Fi drama Outcasts is to be axed by the BBC

Sadly after the poor ratings after just one series. The show, starring Hermione Norris, Liam Cunningham and Ugly Betty's Eric Mabius, has only aired eight episodes but it was confirmed that the show would be ending after it's final episode last night. I personally thought the series was good enough to pass the first round. But I agree that the Sci-Fi aspect of the story was not enough to keep the Scifi Buffs committed as it was obvious that it was just decoration around a confused genre.

Due to the slump in ratings, the show was moved to a late night spot on a Sunday night but the ratings continued to drop, despite being heavily promoted by the BBC.

The final episode was watched by 1.56 million people but earlier today, the official Twitter page for Outcasts released a statement confirming the end of the show. I had all the episodes recorded and just watched the one before last. I noticed lots of inconsistent scenes with many mistakes. For example, there were at least two takes, where, someone walks towards the camera in the background and when the camera is reversed direction for the second take on the main conversation, that person has disappeared. So part of the problem with the series was combination of bad editing and incoherent direction by the director.

The Tweet simply stated: "No series two Outcasts- we're sorry. Thanks so much for all your support over the last three months."The show's page was flooded with praise for the show and demands for a second series but writer Ben Richards added: "To those asking - there are still some ideas about the "missing" series 2 floating about - you'll be first to know!"

TThe BBC has tried to defend itself by talking about the scriptwriter’s “nerve and confidence to create their own original world and serve it up to an audience,” But for me there were too much effort to take some aspects of Battlestar Galactica (2004 TV series) style of edginess without the audience having a clear understanding of who the evil is in the story. In general the series was very confused and its SF genre was mostly lost after second episode. The characters were more tentative and less enthusiastic. Throughout the 7 episodes that I did see, I rarely saw a happy & fun minute and the audience never has a moment to properly connect with most of the characters. Most of the plots were obvious to the audience whilst they seemed to have confused professional detectives in the story.
