What CERN reported on Tuesday was the midpoint results from two separate experiments that independently arrived at the same conclusion. The Web-cast presentation was made before several hundred scientists in an atmosphere charged with excitement and punctuated with applause. Both of the main detectors, ATLAS and CMS, have uncovered hints of a lightweight Higgs. If this is true then, the only remaining hole in the standard model would be filled.
